The Red Badge of courage is something the ingured men get when they are fighting. Henry admires the men with the Red Badge and it gives him incouragement to fight and be all who he can be. The men with the Red Badge show how brave they are and Henry wants to be like them, but needs to find it in him to do some couragous things. The importance of the tattered man was he was shot 2 times, but yet was still trying to help the other soldiers. He is a very strong and couragous man, that we all should be like. The tattered man helped Henry out a lot and was one of the guys who influenced Henry to go and be a brave soldier, and make him want to be all he can be. I think he kind of represnts Jesus because he wanted everyone to follow him and he died on the cross, and was like a tattered man. He was also a very brave and Couragous person who everyone should be like.

3. What role does Henry's mother play while he is away from her?
Henry's mom plays the role of the farmer back at home. His father must be gone or dead because it doesn't talk anything about him. She is also a very worried mother, she didn't aprove of Henry going to the war, and now has to worry about loosing her oldest son and maybe only son. That is another reason she wanted Henry to stay home, because she needed help on the farm.

Henry uses the squirrel to show his actions by saying when danger is around, the squirrel doesn't even think about staying where he is, the squirrel will run for its life until it finds safty. it won't just stay in one spot and keep itself in danger. This is just like Henry, he ran when the battle was getting tough and he was being put in danger.

While you have some interesting insights, you miss the main idea when discussing his mother and the tattered man. Good comments, however. Save for discussion!
